Livorno, the port for Tuscany

If Tuscany is one of the richest regions in historical, artistic and landscape testimonies, the destination of most of the tourists arriving in Italy, Livorno is the gateway to it from the sea.

When Cosimo de Medici, at the end of the 16th century, chose Livorno as a stopover for the Grand Duchy - the cradle of the Italian Renaissance and a powerful nation of merchants and bankers - he sensed its potential also due to its strategic position not far from Florence, and equidistant from the other municipalities: Pisa, Siena, Pistoia, Lucca, and again San Gimignano, Certaldo, Volterra, lands rich in history and talents, where you can still hear the echo of Etruscan and Roman culture.

Over the centuries Livorno has inherited the tradition of the Maritime Republics, including that of nearby Pisa, affirming its centrality in the Mediterranean and transoceanic routes, becoming a multifunctional port of international importance.

Today Livorno is an important commercial port that has not lost sight of its tourist vocation as a port for cruises and passengers: even today its port is the gateway to a territory where ingenuity, beauty and art have found a home for centuries. .
